You spend up to 1/3 of your life at work. To help increase productivity and make your area more comfortable for you, here are some tips on how to make your desk area feel more like home.
1. Bring in photos
Looking at a photo of a loved one can bring a feeling of warmth and happiness reliving some of the stress from the day. Seeing photos of incredible natural sights can also help distract you from deadlines you have to reach and actually increase your productivity. Want extra personalization? Purchase a wooden frame from your local craft store and decorate it yourself.
2. Get a plant
Plants help to purify the air, as well as adding moisture to increase humidity. There have been many studies supporting how plants help improve your health, and help you connect with nature. If you do not have a green thumb and need a low maintenance plant, try a Snake Plant or a Dracaena.
3. Look at your chair
A poor quality chair can result in back and neck pain. If you spend majority of your day sitting, it is in your best interest to invest in a high quality chair. There are also back support pillows that you can use to lean on during the day. You can always bring in your favorite small pillow from home to sit on or use to lean against.
4. Bring in your own mug
Constantly drinking coffee in the morning? Bring in your own mug to have something from home on your desk. Mugs with a funny saying can always be a conversation starter, or just having something that makes you smile is worth having. You can also feel good about yourself for saving some of those paper cups.
5. Wear socks
If you have a casual work environment, or sit behind your desk all day, take off those stiff shoes and wear some plush socks or slippers! How good does it feel to get home and take off your shoes during a long day? Give yourself a mid day break and slip your feet into something more comfortable for a bit while you are at work.
